Pepsi Max Goes Undercover Again; Takes Reporter for a Wild Ride

danny-ori-noggins-edge-pepsi-maxIn March of last year, Pepsi Max released a hilariously awesome undercover video.  Starring NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon, he took a Chevy Camaro and an unsuspecting salesman for the ride of their life.  The video racked up some 1.2 million views on YouTube within 24 hours and over 40 million since then.  However exciting and funny the video was, Travis Okulski, a blogger from Jalopnik, a car-focused website, had serious doubts about the video being authentic.  He claimed it was a fake and made his voice loud and clear.  As it turns out, some friends of Okulski, and his boss, wanted to help Jeff Gordon seek a little revenge, who was angered by the accusations that it was faked.

Posing as a cab driver who spent the last 10-years in jail, Gordon takes the blogger for a wild ride, outrunning a police car after being pulled over near manufacturing plant, while kidnapping the passenger.  At least this time, Okulski admits that this was very real.

“I thought I was going to die. I yelled, I banged the glass, I actually tried to kick through the plexiglass window between the driver and me. I pulled out my phone to call 911, but couldn’t keep it steady enough to dial.”

As for Pepsi Max, this is another great viral marketing stunt.  Will it cause me to purchase and drink this product, though?  Highly doubtful, but at least I know it’s a good source of entertainment.
